WOW. What great weather we have been having this week. Have you been out enjoying it? It has been the perfect weather for relaxing in the sun.
Well it certainly looks like the parks team have been busy this week, and one of their jobs I thought I would tag along on was the planting of the Urban Meadows. It was great to see how they did it and this is something that has happened for the last 5 years, so the team certainly know what they are doing 🙂
Now I may have been down there with the team for a day this week but this is not a process that takes just one day, they have been getting this meadow ready since October!! That just seems like way to much planning to me! The first thing they do (In October) is to cut down that years flowers once they have finished flowering. It is sad to see them go at the end of each year, but necessary so that we can enjoy the flowers again in the future, like we will be doing soon!
Over the summer who knows what might start growing amongst those beautiful flowers, but do not worry yourself as the parks team have a plan to deal with any unwanted weeds, the meadows are sprayed which removes those meddling weeds.
What comes next? No fear, our planting journey has not finished yet and you know me I am always happy to share my knowledge.
The parks team have to wait a couple of months but once April comes around it is time to get back to those meadows where they are then cultivated and sown with the urban meadow flower seeds* from here it is a waiting game, it takes those flowers about six weeks to germinate and then start flowering.
After that there is really only one thing for us to do, sit back, relax and enjoy these lovely meadows in the sunshine.
*If you love the flowers down there as much as I do you might want to know what the flowers are. Well don’t worry I always provide and I have list of flower seeds here for you. Or you can purchase them for your own garden by clicking here. 🙂
Thanks team for all your hard work.
I’ll be back with another blog soon 🙂
